Gallery reopening April 1st with a stunning new show of pastels by Susan Benson
The wildly popular Haute Couture show in the Abkhazi Garden in Victoria will continue through the new year. Bev Petow’s delicate steel gowns in the garden, inspired by the Princess Peggy Abkhazi, are beautiful and beautifully enhanced by the gracious garden. Don’t miss it! Her work is also showing at the Bellevue Arts Museum (by Seattle) through the new year.
Pandilliaon – an ehibition of Michael Robb’s remarkable figures of fantasy – August 5th – Sept 1st
Reception Friday, August 5th 5 – 8pm
Sculpted in wood, metal and other found materials, these works come from the dreamscape or from vague memories of the archaic; they are archetypal, both familiar and paradoxically obscure.
ROADSIDE ATTRACTION is a rollicking exhibition of the fantastical work of Judson Beaumont—designer and fabricator of wildly imaginative furniture and playspaces. Fresh from a show in Los Angeles, a gig in New Mexico, and projects in Dubai, Judson is coming to Salt Spring with a high impact show including some of his most popular classics, such as the Little Black Dresser and colour-changing Tree Rings. The show will feature his latest designs of house shelves, pet trailers, hollow chairs and jumping cabinets as well as a display of his unique storyboarding process.
An artist whose slogan is ‘making quirk work,’ Judson Beaumont is a creative force ten in the international design world.
The man behind the mania:
Judson Beaumont went straight from Emily Carr School of Art and Design to Straight Line Designs where for over 30 years he has designed and constructed furniture, sculptures and installations for exhibitions and commissions all over the world. A long-time denizen of the Vancouver downtown east side art scene at 1000 Parker Street, he is a recipient of the BC Achievement Award and a generous patron of Arts Umbrella and Artists for Kids Foundation in Vancouver.
A ROADSIDE ATTRACTION opens at the Duthie Gallery Saturday, July 2nd with an artist reception from 5 to 9pm. and runs through August 1st.
